I've been getting thousands of pieces of trackback spam per day and nobody from the Pebble mailing list wants to help me with it so I've just turned them off.

I'm too busy to get my website in order at the moment, so this is the only thing I could think of. I can't stand fucking spammers. It's bad enough I get so much spam on my cellphone, but my wonderful (read: worst company in the world) cell phone provider also says there is nothing they can do about it.

Hey folks, I'm really sorry to distract you with a bunch of pointless stuff, but I need to get this off my chest.

There's been some anonymous douchebag leaving comments over the last couple of days to the last post I put up a month ago. I finally got tired of what he was doing and decided he was just a troll trying to waste everyone's time, so I removed his comments and my replies to them so no one else has to suffer through me feeding this guy.

Since I took them down, he sent me another comment accusing me of censoring him. For the record and for eternity, here are all the comments he put on the site for that post along with my replies:

It's good to see the mayor completely copy the CCFR platform within a month of the election. It's a good thing you didn't vote for those union loving policies. Sheesh! so much for I won't get fooled again.

The election was over a month ago, dude; get over it. Mayor Pat isn't even in the news. The only "platform" he has adopted is the one in your head.

I'm insane, you can't even read a frickin paper. Fiasco not in the news, that would never happen.The man jumped in front of the Queen for as photo op. Read the council reports disclosure, Rathwell conduct,Accessability, and Youth Council. These are all CCFR planks and all adopted by council. He accuses me of "censoring" - guess what, buddy? You're crazy and I've already wasted a bunch of mine and everyone else's time with your bullshit. Not only that, but this isn't a sounding board for discussions about politics or otherwise - this is my personal website and I can pretty much do whatever the fuck I want with it.

My DNS provider, Hammernode, is going dark starting on Wednesday, so I've had to find someone new to host my DNS record. Translation: you might have trouble connecting to this site for the next day or two. If you can see this message, my website is either back up and running or hasn't been broken yet.

It was a fantastic service and other providers will have to work hard to fill the void. Can anyone recommend a free DNS service for me to use? I'm too lazy / stupid to bother running one myself :)

My server's IP address is getting switched tonight by Cable Regina, so this site is gonna be up and down for a bit over the next while. If you can see this, great. If you can't, well, I guess you'll just have to wait for this to sort itself out.

Post mortem

I took the website down last night for what I hoped was a three hour outage to upgrade everything on the server, but it turned into almost 24 hours because I am an idiot and have no idea what I am doing with computers or pretty much anything.

Watch this space if I get around to it for my guide to getting various things going on Fedora Core 4, tentatively titled "A big fucking waste of your time: Installing Apache, Java 5, and Tomcat 5 on Fedora Core 4".

As always, let me know if you notice anything weird with the site. If there's a problem, it's probably my fault.

The Great Server Upgrade of 2005

I am going to be spending the better part of the near future upgrading my desktop and server machines at home to the latest and greatest version (4) of Fedora. I'm also going to be upgrading this website to the latest version of Pebble. Expect this site to go up and down over the weekend or whenever I actually get around to doing it.

Why am I installing Fedora? I might as well since I've used Red Hat software since version 5 or 6 or something and I'm used to it. It's also popular enough that I can find the software I need for it. The announcement of the creation of the Fedora Foundation is another check in the plus column. If you'd like to recommend some other distribution (like Ubuntu), feel free, but your time is running out!

I stopped using Windows a long time ago and I'm better off for it!

P.S. - Yes, I will buy a Mac the minute the price isn't double everything else for half the power and I stop getting the same functionality for less than the $150/year they charge for OS "upgrades".
